Who Pays for Michelle Obama's Wardrobe?

Michelle Obama is one of the most well dressed First Ladies to take up residence in the house that talks. She like her husband is the most scrutinized person in the city of Washington D.C. If I have ever seen two people that are damned if they do and damned if they don't, it is the Obamas.

It is of no surprise to me that people took aim at the First Lady's wardrobe before Mr. Obama took his hand off the inauguration bible in 2008. The fashion aficionados and female fans of White House fashion of course always weigh in on what our First Lady dons. There is also the witch-hunt "Hatorade" drinking bunch that awake every morning with the sole purpose of finding or creating some adverse form of negativism to charge back to the Obamas. Mrs. Obama's wardrobe has not escaped this posse of villains.

There have been verbal pot shots taken at Mrs. Obama's arms, derriere, legs, and always clothes. When all else fails to dispel the fact the first Lady  can rock a burlap sack and look good in it if she chooses to; the Haterade drinkers order a second round and instigate the notion taxpayers are on the hook for  the formal gowns and brand names the First Lady rocks. (Disclaimer; I could care less if we (taxpayers were paying for everything Mrs. Obama wears; we sure as hell are paying for worse and more ludicrous things than a First Lady's wardrobe).

Now to bust the bubble of "dirt needed on the Obamas" scavengers I can tell you, taxpayers have very little to do with financing the First lady's wardrobe. I guess the GOP is going to have to stick with Benghazi, or birddog Bergdhal, or what they normally do as a whole- nothing. There is nothing new to see here.

Joanna Rosholm, press secretary to the first lady, confirms:

"Mrs. Obama pays for her clothing. For official events of public or historic significance, such as a state visit, the first lady's clothes may be given as a gift by a designer and accepted on behalf of the U.S. government. They are then stored by the National Archives."

Her formal event gowns are actually donated by the gown's designers. Donated gowns include Mrs. Obama's two inaugural gowns made by Jason Wu, a lesser-known designer before Mrs. Obama turned him into a star in the fashion world.

Two other examples of donated gowns worn by the first lady is the blue Carolina Herrera gown that Mrs. Obama wore to the February 2013 State Dinner for French President Francois Hollande and the gold beaded Naeem Khan gown that she appeared in  at the 2012 governors ball.

Hold on those of you with magnifying glasses that just went Aha! Ethics - gifts. The President's wife should not be taking gifts from businesses. She's good and she has the lawyers to prove it.

Lawyers who served in the Obama and Bush White Houses describe taking care in working with the first lady's office to ensure that arrangements with designers didn't run afoul of ethics rules designed to guard against conflicts of interest and questionable quid pro quos.

The residual prestige and exposure from dressing Mrs. Obama, is a huge incentive for designers to cut the first lady a generous break to get her in their fashions. I would donate my favorite bomber jacket complete with my Blog title emblazoned across the back to her if I knew where to send it.

SHE GOES TO J CREW AND TARGET!!!! WHOSE MONEY IS SHE SPENDING? Hers. Yes, it is a classic omission of dirt grubbing right-wingers and blatant bigots and racists that the Obamas had money before taxpayers started paying Barack.

Well there you have it. I'll exit this piece on the comment of a reader from one of my favorite blogs.

Are you haters satisfied now?
