WASHINGTON — Philadelphia Pennsylvania has been selected as the site of the 2016 Democratic convention. Philly beat out finalists Columbus, Ohio; and New York.
Philadelphia promised "a seamless and safe convention,'' Democratic National Committee chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said in a statement. The city's "deep rooted place in American history provides a perfect setting for this special gathering. I cannot wait to join Democrats across the country to celebrate our shared values, lay out a Democratic vision for the future, and support our nominee."
The party has already set the week of July 25 for events leading to the introduction of its next presidential standard-bearer.
