Nigeria's Boko Haram is Looking to Back The Islamic State

Terrorism is about to double down. According to an audio statement believed to be from Boko Harem's leader, Abubakar Shekau, the Nigerian militant group has pledged allegiance to Islamic State (IS).

The message, which has not been verified, was posted on Boko Haram's Twitter account and hit the news waves on 3/7/15.

In the audio message posted on Saturday, the Boko Harem leader purportedly said: "We announce our allegiance to the caliph... and will hear and obey in times of difficulty and prosperity".

The announcement is not surprising. Boko Harem's propaganda output bears evidence of growing IS influence on the Nigerian movement, whose ideology and harsh practices mirror those of IS itself. In addition, IS has forged links with other militant groups across North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. An alliance with Boko Harem wouldn't be out of character for IS.

Terrorism as about to ratchet itself up.
